Music Monday- Music For the Tragic Love

04/30- Music For the Tragic Love-

At some point in every writer’s career, an important secondary character has to die for the story to move along. Death has a huge impact on everyone who deals with it, especially when the departed means a lot to you. To bring out the right emotion and make the scene feel real, you need the perfect mood music.

In one of my last few books -and I won’t say which one, because death sucks- I had to kill off an important person to my heroine. I found the perfect song to make her fall apart, then pull herself back together, so she could be there for her family. This song was so perfect with this scene, it not only had me crying by the end of it, but sobbing and gasping for air. That song is Mia (translated as lost child or missing child) By IU (pronounced I You).

Now, remember I said I was a huge Asian Drama fan. I first learned about IU when she made her acting debut in the drama Dream High in 2010-2011. I thought she was the cutest and sweetest little gal I had ever seen. I learned that she was a real singer, so it was off to YouTube where I found this song. From the first time I heard it, I feel in love with the song. Mia is the perfect tragic love story all on it's own.

Please excuse me if I translate this badly, because I only know a handful of Korean. I'll explain from what i have heard from other IU fans who do speak Korean. In Mia, her lover dies, but she can’t except losing him. She follows his path into the underworld to try to get him back. Fighting her way through the spirits that would keep her there, she finally finds him. But, he says it is not her time, gives her back their couple’s ring. Then, he tells her to go back, burn the pictures of them and forget about him.

Seeing her agony just kills me. She did an amazing job with the video. All the different instruments used left a soft almost eerie sound in my mind. And yes the images are slightly creepy, but she gets her point across in an incredible way. A beautiful, tragic love story that stole my heart.

For the adventurist, watch the video.

 Mia By:IU- Original Music Video

Then, if you would like watch the second video. This one is just the song, but with the lyrics added on in English.

Six Sentence Sunday

4/29- From New Beginnings-

"In other words, we kill your convicts if we want to go home?" Dragunter asked, sounding even more disrespectful.
"No alien man. I said champion not champions. Megumi will kill them, unless of course she dies, then you can have a shot at it." Shiva winked then pointed at the ceiling. "Dragunter and I will watch from above. If you fall he will take up the sword for you."

Thoughtful Thursday- About Me!

Thoughtful Thursdays-
04/26

I won’t be doing Thoughtful Thursday every week. I don’t want to end up being bogged down worrying more about what to write for my next blog than my actual writing. On the weeks when something important is going on or I’ve found something interesting to share, then I will.

For my first week of full on blogging, I thought I would use my Thursday to offer up a little about myself. The most important thing to me is family. I come from a huge family, but unfortunately they all live down south. I don’t get to see them often, though I think of at least one of them each day.

My own small family keeps me going. There is the hubby Tim and my 13-year-old son T.J. ( Tim, Time’e, I don’t know what he is called today. Apparently being a teenager means changing your nickname every day.)

Also in our tiny family are my two sweetest babies. Though they think they are just as human as us, they are actually ferrets. The oldest is an albino ferret named Shiva, who does a great impression of a teenage human girl, diva, princess. She is such a character that I actually used her to create a villain for my book New Beginnings.

My youngest is Scooter, who my son named and he thinks he is a tiny human baby. He constantly needs to hug, snuggle and have attention from someone. Those are two kids who really love each other. But that is a story for another day.

The first thing people get to know about me is how important romance is to me and I’m a sucker for the L word. One thing that defines me is I love to be entertained and while doing so learn new things. I always have to have music around me. I watch way to much TV and always have. I even thought about writing for a TV show, but I’m sure you need a special degree for that. I love all sorts of types of movies, everything from fantasy to action as long as it has a love story mixed in.

Not only am I a writer, but an avid reader. I tend to hit library sales with a vengeance, plus everyone I know buys me books for holidays. My own home library is filled with over a thousand titles, plus my e-reader is loaded to max. I’ve gotten to the point where sometimes I have to donate books when I end up with doubles. I tend to read a lot of different things, from a few mysteries, a ton of YA, the occasional sci-fi, manga (romantic comic books), but mostly romance of one genre or another.

One of my favorite things are Asian Dramas. In Asian Countries they tend to take mangas and turn them into animes (which I love too) then later live action drama TV shows. So, I’m slightly addicted to these shows.

Ok, enough about me. I’ll add in more info down the road. Maybe next week I’ll even share details on the Drama inspired time-travel I’m working on along with Petrus’ You Were Wrong (Book 2 in the Haven Sent saga).

Hump Day Hunks:

Each Wednesday I’m planning to bring you a hunk worthy snippet. But here is the catch! Each week will have a different theme. A hunk with a past, a hunk with a dream, a hunk worth slapping, a hunk worth dying for, ect.
For my first Hump Day Hunk entry, I wanted to do something epic and unforgettable. So, I’ll start out with a hunk who could use a really good slap. From my book, His Kiss, we have the character Jonas. He is a very gorgeous, Native American and some what of a ladies’ man.
Jonas meets this crazy chick, Amber at a friend’s barbeque and really likes her. The only problem is she is completely hung up on his baby brother. This piece of a scene is his reaction to his brother telling him to keep his hands off Amber.

--------------------------
His Kiss-
Taylor dragged Jonas out into the street and shoved him against his own work truck.
"Look there are a million girls in the world, can't you just go find one of them and leave my Amber alone?"
"Your Amber? I don't see a ring on her finger baby brother." Jonas grinned snottily.
"Don't screw with me Jonas. You have messed around with every girlfriend I have ever
had except for Janet."
"That's cause Janet may be small, but she's one big bitch bro." Using one hand he lightly
pushed Taylor back a step and stood up straight. "Come to think about it, you've never wanted to rip my head off over a girl. It's always been if she is the type of girl who wants to run after my brother, then good riddance. Now your little pal shows interest in me and you fly off the handle? I don't think so. Give it to me straight. What is really going on here?"
"I was lying to Janet and said Amber was my new girlfriend, then kissed her to prove my
point."
Shrugging Jonas asked, "So what? You kissed her. Does that mean you have to protect her virtue now man?"

Music Monday

  04/23

  Music Worth Fighting For:

Music plays a huge part in my writing, so I thought I would start sharing what inspires me each Monday. Someone once called me a Poser for not sticking to just one type of music. Oh well… whatever. It doesn’t bother me and its their lose. They have no idea how much they are missing by sticking with their own one type of music.

I love almost every type of music. As a fair warning I’m also a HUGE fan of Asian Dramas. So all my music choices might not be in English, but they will all serve a purpose in my advances to write great love stories.
Now, what music is worth fighting for? In my Zogone saga (1-Old Dreams, 2- Past Regrets, 3- Ancient Enemies, 4- New Beginnings).  I wrote a number of battle scenes. Swords and staffs striking, laser riffles firing, hand to hand combat, punching, kicking, swinging, dodging, full on action scenes and even one space battle.

To write these scenes I need loud, exciting songs. With my headphones on, one of the songs I use, is like an explosion of sound. The background music slams at you from all sides making your blood boil and your heart pound. The words leave you slightly angry and ready for a fight. This is one of the songs I stick to for fight scenes and also one of my son’s favorite bands.
Stick your headphones on to get the full affect of the song, then if you would like leave a comment. How does the song make you feel? Are you like me and ready to write an exciting scene, picking a fight and killing off the last person who really peeved you off?

Fight worthy song!

Six Sentence Sunday

Six Sentence Sunday-

4/22- From Talkers By. Debra A. Soles-

Dropping his paper, Ritter looked up at her, lifting his right pierced eyebrow.
“So vhat you are saying is you never meant to go along with it? I just
tempted you?”
Her mouth open and she started to stutter awkwardly. “Well yes actually.”
Standing up, Ritter walked right up in front of her, leaned down, sticking his face in hers. “So you are saying I seduced you and made you vant to do bad things to me?”

More woes for Petrus...

Over the last week or so I've been stuck on a scene. Petrus is such a problem child I have to rethink everything about him. I want him to behave in a certain way, but he always fights me. The last scene I wrote just doesn't feel right. My mission is to change Petrus into a character we can love... too bad he is such an arschloch.
Now I'm debating either dropping the scene all together or rewriting it to kingdome come. For Petrus' sake, he had better hope I'm in a better mood with him today. :)

This is a work of fiction. All characters, events, and places are of the author's imagination and not to be confused with fact. Any resemblance to living persons or events is merely coincidence.

All of the band members, except for Ritter, were dressed in almost normal clothes, jeans and t-shirts. Three of the members just wore extra accessories. Petrus with his slightly pale skin and almost waist length black tiny dreads added silver threads shining in them to catch the stage lights and make him sparkle. He added a black and blue bandana around his throat and left his natural good looks to do the rest of the job for him.

Wagner wore large leather and metal studded bracelets and a matching belt, leaving it at that. His shaggy light brown rocker hairdo and honey colored skin did plenty for his image. While, Fritz wore jean shorts instead of pants, with a baseball cap and a range of multicolored jelly bracelets. The short spiky blond hair contrasted with his brown skin and his husky frame made him stand out from the rest of his thinner band members.

Ritter on the other hand was their singer and leader of the band, so he had to stand out even more than his friends. He wore tight, red leather pants and a skin tight silk shirt that was black, but sparkled like it was covered in glitter. His mid-back length black hair with the occasional added blond strand, fell around his pale face, which was now bright and sparkly from his stage makeup.

With his back to her, Ritter knelt down in a crouch, popping up and down a few times apparently to test the limits of his pants. It was better to check them now and waylay any wardrobe accidents that may come up on stage. Every time Ritter knelt down, Shayle's eyes followed the motion as the butter soft leather stretched across his tiny perfect bottom, inviting her to look and her mouth to water.

Biting her knuckles, Shayle groaned, trying to ignore the tingling sensation starting in the pit of her stomach. When Ritter spun around in mid crouch, it was obvious he caught her staring. Grinning, he straightened up, sauntered over to her and did a slow dance around her. He trailed his fingers over one of her shoulders, across her back to her other shoulder, then spun himself so he was standing in front of her.

With a wink, he traced a finger over the back of her left hand. "This is your first time seeing us in concert, so you'll have to tell me vhat you think later tonight." His slight alien accent adding to the tingles and weakened her knees.

Not knowing what to say, Shayle just nodded. She didn't know if it was pre-show nerves or what, but Ritter was openly flirting with her. As much as she tried to seem unaffected, she couldn't lie to herself.

The sexy grin and having his hands on her, even the smallest touch, tempted her. It made her think of things that were completely inappropriate with this kid who was her boss. He made her think of things like sighs and heat in the dark.

The stage manager called out the ten minute warning, helping Shayle to pull herself out of a very dirty day dream. Coughing to cover her embarrassment after she realized she had been staring at Ritter with her mouth hanging open. Picking up their guitars, Wagner and Petrus stepped around her snickering. With a shrug, Fritz followed them, having missed what had happened and apparently could care less.

They were the last two left in the room, so Ritter touched her hip and slowly turned Shayle toward the door. "Valk vith me."

Turning her so they were hip to hip, he let his arm slid around her waist and dropped his hand on her opposite hip. Dodging running staff members, doing last minute prep, they squeezed together through the tiny hallway. Their bodies sliding against each other, sent shocks of awareness through her, forcing her to take deep breaths to calm herself.

Just off the stage, she was thankful to leave him with the roadies and the rest of his band. From there she walked back out to the main part of the arena, catching the eye of each of her security staff to make sure everything was safe for them to proceed.

Unclipping a walkie-talkie from her belt, she held it to her mouth and tapped down the side button. "All clear to start."

Releasing the button, she held the walkie to her ear , listening to static for a second, before she got the reply from the stage manager. "Alright, one minute to start."

The main house lights went off and the fan's happy chatter went into loud cheers. Shayle hit a small button on her security pass, held on a string around her neck, making it light up in the darkness. The lighted pass would make it easier for anyone who needed help to spot security.

The lights on the stage came on sending red, yellow and blue shadows shining over the back of the stage curtain. Inch by inch, the curtain lifted to show the stage with Ritter standing out in front with his back to the crowd. Fritz lifted his drum sticks in the air, he whacked them together to start the beat count off.

"Ein… Zwei…Drei…"

Petrus slid a hand up the neck of his guitar, then zoomed it right back down again in a loud explosion of sound, then repeated the process two more times. The lights flickered back and forth over the stage, creating a parade of confetti shimmers as Wagner came in with a deep thump, thumping riff with his base guitar.

As Fritz went to work on his drums, the three sounds combined into a head rocking, satisfying sound. Ritter did his usual concert start, swishing his hips from side to side. Then, as the first burst of pyrotechnics went off on either side of him, Ritter leaped forward toward the middle of the stage.

He spun to face the crowd, yelling out the first words to a new song, Shayle had never heard before. Their old popish sound had bled into a wild hard rocking one. Their young bubble gum image was suddenly replaced with that of adult musicians.

Shayle watched the faces of the crowd as the lights flew back and forth to see how the crowd was taking the change of their beloved band. For almost a full minute the crowd was speechless. Then, as if someone had hit the mute button to restore sound, there were yells, screams and even crying girls hugging each other.

Turning back to watch Ritter, Shayle had to admit she felt like drooling right along with the little fan girls. Ritter was like a master magician. He used the sounds, the lights and color, even his clothes and movements to pull you in. Not only could he sing, but his dancing was sexy as hell, sexy enough to bring a saint to her knees.

Clearing her throat, Shayle turned her head to watch the crowd and made her eyes stay there. Once or twice she caught herself sneaking peeks at Ritter, then instantly jerked her attention away. Doing her job instead of melting into a puddle of lust was harder than she could have ever imagined.

Honestly, it kind of made her feel like crap and quite a bit ashamed to even see Ritter as a man. Lusting after him made her feel even worse. She comforted herself with the knowledge that attracting women was part of Ritter's job and he was especially good at it. That was one reason the band was so popular. It was also one of the reasons they had stalkers and they had given her this security job in the first place.

The End

Talkers Excerpt #2

  TALKERS-

  Excerpt 2-
“Ritter…. Ritter.” Was their only warning, before Petrus let himself into the bedroom.

Ritter had just enough time to jerk the sheet over Shayle’s head where she was kissing each music note up his side. When he entered the room Petrus stopped dead in his tracks as his mouth fell open.

“What brouther?” Ritter peeped over the covers at him.

Clearing his throat, Petrus coughed into his hand. “The magazine interview is in five minutes. You’ll be late if you don’t hurry. Everyone else is already downstairs in the conference room.”

Poking her head out of the covers, Shayle sat up straight and nodded, while trying to keep everything important covered. “Go ahead, we will be right there.”

Petrus’ flushed face showed he was in the embarrassed shoes for once. Watching him squirm made Ritter grin in perverse satisfaction.

“Stall, ve vill be there in ten..” Ritter said.

Once Petrus excused himself, they hurried to dress and rush down to the conference room. Ritter spent the next hour distractedly answering questions and watching Shayle. Leaning against the wall behind the interviewers, she just stood and watched.

The room was only about ten feet by ten feet and empty except for two long grey couches facing each other. There wasn’t much for Shayle to watch other than the pale peach walls. Each bodyguard leaned against a different wall, each one looking more bored than the last.

Shifting his eyes back to Shayle, Ritter couldn’t help but grin. Standing there in her wrinkled t-shirt and old faded black jeans, her hair was wildly sticking out around her face. She had never looked more beautiful to him. With her well loved glow, she made him tremble. Finally, she had become fully his and it had been the best stolen few hours of his life.

At the next question, Ritter glanced back and realized one of the reporters was keenly watching him. Dropping the grin into his normal fake smile, he didn’t look back at Shayle again, to stop from giving them away before she was ready.

When her cell phone went off everyone turned to look as she flustered pulled it out of her front pocket, apologizing for the interruption. Stepping toward the door she walked into the small two by two entrance hall that led to the door and answered the call.

“Hello.” Ritter leaned further over, one butt check coming off the couch as he leaned as far as possible to hear better. “Gunter? What?” She let herself out into the hall and the distress was obvious in her voice.

Doing something completely uncharacteristic, Ritter stood up and followed with barely a, “Gentlemen, you’ll have to excuse me.”

Talkers Excerpt #1

  TALKERS-

  Excerpt 1-

Her thoughts, from the moment she had opened her eyes had been for him. Why would he tease me like that? Had he been joking around or did he seriously ask me to go to bed with him? Shaking her head, she tried to dislodge the steamy ideas the thought of them together had put in her head.

No matter what she had always been a girl with proper morals. First of all, there was no way she would be messing around with some guy, especially one she barely knew. Secondly, he was close to seven years younger than her, a green kid who had barely lived. No matter how sexy and tempting he was, the kid was off limits. Not to even mention he was her employer at the moment.

He didn’t seem to even notice she was next to him. Slouched against the door, he had his head leaned against the window. His eyes were closed and his arms were crossed loosely over his chest. Even with a baseball cap pulled down over his forehead and plain, no makeup or fancy clothes, he was distracting and it was making her nervous.

Drumming her fingertips against the steering wheel, she began to bob her head to imaginary music, then hummed to herself softly. Ritter startled her by dropping a hand across hers to stop her tapping.

  “Do I make you nervous?”

She didn’t dare look at him, knowing the truth would be written across her face. “Of course not. I’m just impatient to get there, so we can keep to our schedule.”

“Right.” Ritter said sounding more than a little sarcastic and unconvinced, then yawned as he sat up in his seat.
